Summary

After the expected success of the new Batman games on PlayStation 2 and PC, Ubi Soft is bringing the caped crusader to Nintendo’s highly anticipated GameCube just in time for the console’s release.

Published and developed by the France-based video game giant, Batman’s plot is unlike any film or animated episode to go before it. In the midst of one of his twisted schemes, and during a struggle with Batman, The Joker falls to his death from a bridge. Crime sweeps Gotham City, as the likes of Poison Ivy, Mr Freeze, Harley Quinn, and other notorious villains step up to fill The Joker's evil shoes. Whichever way you look at it, the fate of Gotham City lies in your hands.

Graphically, and like its animated counterpart, Batman Vengeance is a simple looking game. The environments lack any noticeably high level of detail, but they manage to capture the theme of the game brilliantly. There are hundreds of blank walls and huge masses of dark tarmac as you fly, swing and climb your way through the game’s 19 massive levels. It all looks very moody, and perhaps even a little scary.

Following a linear gameplay, players are immediately and deeply entrenched in an intricate, action-filled mystery. To uncover the plot against Batman, players must exploit every skill, device and technology in the Batman arsenal. Gamers utilise masterful martial arts moves to keep The Joker's henchmen at bay, and grappling hooks to explore the hidden nooks of Mr Freeze's chemical plant. Additionally, players can race the streets and airways of Gotham in the Batmobile and Batplane, or freefall from buildings with the aid of an armour-enhanced cape. Collecting clues to unravel the plot at hand, players must piece together intricate mysteries, always on the alert for thugs, traps and treachery.

It’s a villain’s world out there. Take care.
