Summary

Considering the gaming industry's current penchant for the stealthier approach, it seems appropriate that a concept such as Mission: Impossible should make a return to the limelight. The top secret exploits of Ethan Hunt, complete with myriad disguises, gadgets and hi-tech weaponry are indeed ideal video game material. Well someone at Atari seems to think so, anyway.

Operation Surma is the latest stealth-action adventure to be released for the Game Boy Advance. Your mission - and you know you'll choose to accept it - is to save the free world from certain doom. An evil organisation known as the Surma Corporation has some diabolical plans for world domination and it's up to you to put a stop to it.

The game sees you take control of the renowned Ethan Hunt and lead your IMF team in the quest to thwart the plans of the aforementioned menace. As you would expect, a wealth of IMF-style gadgets is at your disposal, such as scanners and inner-ear communicators, as is all the latest hi-tech weaponry and the familiar mind-blowing disguises.

Throughout the game, you'll find yourself travelling to an assortment of exotic international locations, including the Middle East, Rome and Eastern Europe, whilst tackling missions that require you to exercise both stealth and brawn. Sometimes you're given the choice between the two options and, as such, the game offers multiple paths towards completing each mission.

Apart from Splinter Cell, there isn't much in the way of similar offerings currently available for the GBA. If this is the type of thing you've been looking for, then Operation Surma is well worth a look.
