Summary

Over-the-top toy car racing action now comes to handheld courtesy of the Game Boy Advance version of Hot Wheels Velocity X. Like its PC and home console counterparts, the game's concept is the fusion of Hot Wheels toy cars with a modern video game environment, this version appearing courtesy of 2D isometric visuals.

The game is made up of a series of driving-based missions, throughout which you are required to perform a host of wild and crazy stunts, such as speeding through hoops and flying through the air. The story that holds these missions together tells of a rogue gang of racing villains and their attack on Monument City. It's your job to defend the city from the onslaught by racing the baddies, running them off the road, and making use of a wide range of futuristic weapons.

This is a fairly comprehensive racing game in all. Over 45 authentic Hot Wheels vehicles feature throughout, each rendered from a 3D model, and each able to take advantage of more than 15 offensive and defensive power-ups. The destructible gameworld is built up of six huge levels, which together offer a total of 30 treacherous missions.

As well as all that there's the option to link up two GBA's and take on a friend in one of three different multiplayer games: Head to Head, Hot Wheels Battle Mode and Stunt Challenge. Value for money if ever we saw it!
