Summary

It's been dogged by a series of delays and development hiccups, but Kemco's latest falling block puzzler, Eggo Mania, has finally arrived. Well, at least for GameCube.

Eggo Mania has all you need for excellent gameplay: falling blocks, rising water, a time limit, competition mode, and of course, the Eggos! The eight Eggos (plus five secret ones), catch blocks, rotate them, and use them to build towers on the little islands. Their aim is to escape the rising water and be the first to reach the hot air balloon that hovers in the sky. To complicate matters, tower-tumbling and thieving enemies prowl the depths and soar the skies, looking for ways to drown your spirit - so work quickly as the wild race has already begun.

You can play Eggo Mania head-to-head with friends or against a computer-controlled opponent in single player mode. The seven game mode includes a solo high score test, a multi-player tournament, a race against the clock and a weapons-only battle in bomb mode.

The Main mode is the basic challenge Eggo vs Eggo - the player has to beat eight opponents to win the game. Both Eggos build their towers to reach the goal in the upper part of the screen. There are two levels of difficulty, 'Over Easy' for beginners and 'Hard Boiled' for experts. In the tournament mode, players compete in a knockout contest. Beat the time and scores in the solo mode and wreck your opponent's tower in bomb mode. Plus the gamer can configure the game with their own exact requirements in the custom game mode.

Next to the opponent player, many monsters try to steal blocks or force your Eggo into the water. The player can be caught in gas bubbles or attacked by bees, birds and hungry fish. If you can stay nimble on your feet and use your pieces wisely, you'll earn handy power-ups to aid your construction and hinder a rival Eggo's progress. Uncover the innovative power-up items like the super boots to jump higher, magic mix filler, bombs and hammers to damage opponent's towers plus a thunderstorm to knock your opponent into the water.

Well suited to the GameCube hardware, both in terms of design and appeal, Eggo Mania boasts several rather stunning particle and lighting effects that deliver that extra piece of eye-candy for the graphically motivated among you.

Remember, if you stop to think, your tower will sink!
