Summary

It’s been a long time coming, but courtesy of Ubi Soft, Planet of the Apes has arrived for PlayStation. Verily, these apes have finally escaped!

You assume the role of Ben, an astronaut sent by NASA to respond to a distress call from a missing crew. Soon after crash-landing on a mysterious planet, and having lost your flight colleagues in the turmoil, you soon realise that the apes are the superior beings here.

This is where your adventure begins. Taking place in a variety of lush 3D environments, Planet of the Apes bears similarities to a few other well-known games, Tomb Raider especially. But as you progress, the similarities fade, and a unique and compelling game emerges.

Joining forces with Dr. Zaius, Zira and Cornelius, you will have to fight to the death if you are to escape from this surreal planet. There are monkeys aplenty, including renegade baboons and mandrill assassins, as well as hyenas and mutant bats and rats.

Combat aside, there is also a variety of puzzles to be solved as you wander the hostile environments. Subways, military bases and ruined cities are but a few of the locations you will visit.

It doesn’t have the visual prowess of its PC counterpart, but considering PlayStation technology is now eight years old, this version of Planet of the Apes looks great. Other than that, Planet of the Apes or PlayStation is every bit as good as its super-enhanced PC instalment.
