Summary

Bad guy LeChuck is up to his old tricks again, and you, playing as central character Guybrush Threepwood, is the man called upon to make the world a safer place for pirates. And so begins the greatest chapter in the legendary Monkey Island series.

Escape from Monkey Island features pre-rendered backdrops in which the 3D characters roam. Environments are colourful and boast a stunning level of interactivity. While this is a standard feature in the Monkey Island games, it’s nice to see it on a next-generation console.

Your epic adventure will see you confronting evil pirates and interacting with many non-playable characters. But you will often find yourself stuck in life-threatening predicaments, and it is in these situations that many of the puzzles arise. Puzzles are the essence of the gameplay, and in many situations a trial-and-error strategy works best.

EFMI is not presented as dark and scary as seen in the likes of Resident Evil and Dino Crisis. On the contrary, EFMI is light-hearted, consisting of many puns, hilarious jokes and sarcastic comments.

It’s funny, it’s challenging and it works. Enough said.
