The story in Grim Fandango is one of the craziest video game scenarios we have seen in a long time. To its credit of course, because originality is always a plus point for any video game. In Grim Fandango you play Manuel Calavera, a travel agent for the Department of Death. In your lifetime, you committed an unspeakable crime and your punishment is to work as a travel agent until you earn your passage into the afterlife. There are two different ways to get to the afterlife. You can walk, but that takes four years, or you can catch the train, which takes four minutes. Your job is to journey to the land of the living and sell train tickets to those who deserve them.
You come to realise that your customers are being snatched by your rival Domino Hurley. This behaviour is highly suspicious and you intercept one of his clients. It turns out that Domino is stealing tickets from passengers that should be entitled to use the train and selling them on for profit. Unfortunately, you end up being arrested for trying to steal the ticket for yourself. You must prove your innocence, sort out Domino Hurley, expose the Department of Justice and help the people that are being ripped off.
Grim Fandango is a point and click adventure game from Lucas Arts, the creators of some of the best adventure games to date. Grim Fandango is essentially an adventure game with a fine balance of puzzles that you must solve. The non-player characters are usually helpful and provide you with important information that helps you negotiate the four massive levels. They even provide puzzle hints that put you on the track, but never reveal the answer.
Grim Fandango is a classic game. It balances stylish graphics with engaging gameplay with an excellent soundtrack. Overall, a quality gaming experience.
