Summary

There are some strange people out there, and evidently, some of them are working in the video games industry. Evil Twin: Cyprien’s Chronicles for PlayStation 2 really is one of the weirdest games you’ll have the pleasure of playing. Sometimes it’s sick, sometimes it’s funny, and sometimes it’s downright difficult. But rest assured, Cyprien’s Chronicles offers a compelling experience and a phenomenal challenge.

Cyprien, orphaned on his birthday several years previously, has a surprise birthday bash thrown for him by his friends. After his surprise goes horribly wrong and he storms out, the little critter awakens in a world in which a series of twisted dreams based around his friends takes place. But only you can put things right by unravelling the puzzles in these dreams.

The game itself is rendered beautifully and is played in full 3D glory. Yes, some of the game’s themes are sick, but this imaginatively produced title allows for some of the most varied and original environments ever seen in a video game. The PlayStation 2 demonstrates the developers’ imaginations very well. Detail, textures and animation are all of a high standard and all help to immerse the player in this surreal video game.

There are eight ‘islands’ in total, playing host to some 66 levels of bizarre activity. Your challenge, assuming the role of Cyprien himself, is to solve the mysterious dream of each world and find a solution to the problem. This usually entails the player wandering the environments in a ‘platform game’ fashion, collecting vital items while simultaneously disposing of any bad guys you may encounter.

Whether you have to steal nail files from teacher’s pockets (huh?) or acquire scissors from psychotic nurses (eh?), you can bet on an original and intriguing task.

Stranger than stranger than fiction.
