Summary

ATV Quad Power Racing is touted as the only console game dedicated to this particular activity available in the year 2000. Time to get excited? Well yes, actually, because ATV Quad Power Racing is a jolly good ride, especially in two-player mode. But there's plenty of fun to be had if you're on your own and feel like having a solo thrash, although given the traction of these quad bikes, thrash is overstating it a little. But no matter, it's the novelty of a new kind of racer that matters, and how it looks and plays.

So get your motor running and get out on the highw…oh, hang on a minute. There are no highways. ATV Quad Power Racing consists of twelve tracks that are way out in the wild country, as races are held in all kinds of weather conditions and on all kinds of surfaces, from snow to sand and back again. Wherever you find yourself racing, things are guaranteed to get a little hairy, as there is always a field of six riders jostling for position. The courses are full of possible short cuts, but if you insist on keeping to the beaten track, there are signposts to help you when things get really frantic.

The game engine is just about right too. The quad bikes aren't the easiest vehicles in the world to handle and this awkwardness is reflected in the game. These bikes can be sluggish performers at times, just like real-life, so the speed and the handling can be frustrating at first, but perseverance will bring its reward. Again, just like the real thing, ATV Quad Power Racing is a lot of fun. I just hope you can find a friend with a joypad for double the fun.
