Summary

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six series of video games has proved to be a successful one across many platforms, although to date the most impressive release, at least visually, has been on PC. Joining the original Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear are these training and mission disks, known as Covert Ops Essentials, an expansion pack exclusive to the PC format.

A two-disc package, the Covert Ops Mission and Training disks couldn’t be more different. Training exercises are surprisingly not practical. Each exercise on the Training disk is presented as a written exam, consisting of hundreds of questions regarding special tactics operations. The questions are extremely tasking, but knuckle down and you will gain valuable knowledge that will help you through some of the practical challenges on the Mission disk.

Although it requires the original version of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six to run, the mission disk has some exclusive scenarios that give you the opportunity to further practice your abilities as a soldier. There are a variety of game types to get to grips with, giving Covert Ops Essentials a number of possible strategies. You can take on assault, solo, rescue and hunting missions.

Since the Rainbow Six series already has an enviable reputation, it goes without saying that this Covert Ops edition will provide gamers with more of what they want. Add this to your already bulging collection of Tom Clancy titles and you'll have a series of great game experiences.
