Summary

Officially licensed from the Formula One Administration, F1 2000 features real drivers, teams, cars and tracks from the 2000 FIA Formula One World Championship, and was released in time for the beginning of the new season. An inspired move if ever there was one, guaranteed to increase the public’s anticipation of this title, as it offers the possibility of being able to follow the events of the real season, and re-writing history in your own home.

So where does F1 2000 stand on the podium, seeing as there are so many other racing games out there, trying to prize the folding out of your wallet? The answer is simple, as you’ll find out when you rightly splash out for this game, because F1 2000 definitely deserves the biggest bottle of champagne. For starters, the graphics look lovely and lush, as is the norm with the great percentage of Electronic Arts titles, and the cars’ physics are just dreamy. Setting up your chosen car is simple and quick, as the in-game menus are so easy to follow. Alternatively, if you just fancy a blast around the track, select quick race, choose any of the venues (including new F1 addition Indianapolis), and away you go. And buy, do these cars move fast!

However, if you want to get the most out of F1 2000, plunge yourself into the championship season. This is where this particular simulation races away from the opposition. To fully appreciate the nail-biting tension, do not forsake the qualifying session. Before you even get as far as the race proper, real-time qualification is a truly engrossing experience. Miss it and miss out. Start popping those corks, EA, F1 2000 is an accomplished winner.
