Based in Sheffield, England, Particle Systems was a well respected video game development studio. Founded in 1995 by veterans Michael Powell and Glyn Williams, Particle Systems gained a reputation for creating cutting edge science fiction games. The first of these was I-War (Independence War outside of Europe), which was a space combat simulation. This was followed up with Independence War: Defiance and the critically acclaimed Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos.
The company was acquired by Argonaut Games in 2002 and re-branded as Argonaut Sheffield. This incarnation was short-lived, however, as just two years later Argonaut Games collapsed and entered administration, leading to the closure of Argonaut Sheffield.
Particle Systems's first work that SPOnG is aware of is the 1993 title, "Subwar 2050" (PC).
The company has been involved titles released on the PC, Dreamcast and CD32.
The company's most recent involvement was on the 2001 release "Independence War 2: The Edge Of Chaos" (PC).
