Summary

Pro Evolution Soccer fans have long trumpeted the series' finely-tuned mechanics over the flash and glitz of FIFA's fully-licenced offering, and this year's no different. Many saw last year's PES as a real breakthrough title for the franchise, and Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 builds on that success and takes things up a notch.

One of the central enhancements is 'Real Touch'. Konami has aimed to authentically reproduce the subtleties and nuances of ball handling, passing along the real feeling of controlling the ball to the player. This is complemented by the new 'precise pass' system, which builds on real touch to reflect the ability of each player in how they make and receive a pass.

Goalies, which took a bit of flak from critics and players last year, have had an overhaul, with Konami promising the most agile goalkeeping in PES history.

Beyond the ball, players are given greater control over their team than ever with advanced instructions. Distinct strategies such as Tiki-taka and Tight Marking can be set up in Advanced Instructions, as can the team's attitudes to attacking and defending.

The artificial intelligence has seen an upgrade too, with opponent AI having been improved so that it makes more mistakes - not in a way that will have you facepalming on your sofa, but so that other players perform like real-life players.

Overall, PES 2017 takes the huge leap made by last year's release and builds even further on it.
