Summary

There is a danger that, devoid of anything by way of competition, the NBA 2K series could fall victim to complacency. Fortunately, that doesn't look to be the case.

Part of 2K14's success is thanks to the developers at Visual Concepts having the core basketball mechanics down pat. Fast breaks, for example, are fun to pull off but not overly common or exploitable. You won't just be able to hammer away down the court for easy hoops. Thank a defensive upgrade for that.

The much-requested Crews game mode is back, enabling players to get together using their MyPlayers and face off against other teams. So is MyTeam, with new player modes, multi- and single-player tournaments.

One of the great features of playing in the 21st century is the inclusion of Dynamic Living Rosters. Powered by Stats Inc, this means that player attributes and tendencies are constantly updating so that players are giving up-to-the-minute authentic performances. If a player's having a hot or cold streak in the real-life NBA, it could have an impact on your game!

A soundtrack picked by LeBron James that includes the likes of JAY Z, Eminem, The Black Keys and Daft Punk doesn't hurt, either!
