Summary

Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games is the much-anticipated follow up to the unlikely duo's previous Olympic escapades. As the title suggests, this time out it's off to Russia for some frosty fun!

The game follows the pattern of previous entries in the series, with players participating in a number of different events taken from the real Winter Olympics. Favourites such as skiing, bobsledding and curling make a return, alongside new events including figure-skating pairs and snowboarding slope style.

Of course, the control options on offer for the Wii U are not the same as those we saw in the last generation, and the Mario & Sonic series has moved with the times. Some events make use of the Wii Remote MotionPlus and Nunchuk, while others make use of the Wii U Gamepad. Some events, such as the biathalon, even use both!

Also making a comeback are the surreal Dream Events. For the uninitiated, these are events that you could only get in the world of videogames. In one example, for instance, snowboarders, skiers and bobsledders can all compete in one race. Adding further to the wackiness is the fact that these events take place not in Sochi, but in locations pulled from the worlds of Mario and Sonic!
