Summary

The Wii sensation, Wii Fit, has been tuned up and brought into the new generation. Wii Fit U combines the balance board, Wii Remote and Wii Remote Plus with the Wii U gamepad to bring both established workouts and brand new exercises alike. Wii Fit was the game that pioneered the fitness game genre, so you know you're in good hands with Nintendo when it comes to getting a workout in your living room.

Wii Fit U's cutesy interface might lead you to the conclusion that the game is only going to give you un-challenging, low-level workouts. While there are certainly workouts and exercises in here for those just getting going, Wii Fit U offers workouts across a range of fitness levels and intensities. You might do the Guitar Hero-like exercise that involves getting on and off the balance board without breaking a sweat. When you get to the planks and jackknifes, however, you'll start to feel the burn.

While users can dip in and out of exercises at will, they can also schedule their own routines. You might focus on yoga one day, strength training another and cardio on yet another.

New to Wii Fit U is the Fit Meter. This is a device that you can take everywhere with you. It will record your footsteps across the day and feed the data back into the game, giving you a fuller picture of your activity levels and the calories you're burning.

A great way to keep yourself motivated is to workout with friends, and to that end Nintendo has included virtual gyms you can join with your friends, competing in mini-games to compare scores.
