Summary

ArmA has always been a military enthusiast's dream videogame. It drops players in a sprawling open world and offers as much freedom as a soldier could wish for to complete objectives. Players can command troops to assault enemy facilities, plow around in a tank or even pilot attack helicopters.

This time out, though, developer Bohemia is looking - at least in the single-player campaign - to offer a little more structure. The aim is to make the game more accessible to newcomers. Rather than being thrown in at the deep end, players will see new elements such as squad commanders and hardware introduced gradually.

With NATO making its last stand in Europe, you play as a soldier washed up on a Mediterranean island deep behind enemy lines with a deadly mission to fulfill.

The interface has also been overhauled, with more intuitive controls for controlling players in the field or commanding them from above in the style of a realtime strategy game.

Of course, if you just want to dive in and start blowing up other players online (or working with them in co-op, if you prefer) you'll be able to do that, too. And the in-depth modding tools return too, enabling the creation of any number of customisable scenarios.
