Summary

It's been a long time coming, but at last the first photographic scenery of Scotland is here! Using the very best aerial photography and terrain data available, VFR Generation X: V4 - Scotland: The Western Isles, is the first volume in a series of five ultra-high definition photographic sceneries, that will ultimately cover the whole of mainland Scotland and outlying islands.

Substituting real aerial photography and terrain data for Microsoft's generic, default scenery, means that the views you see from your virtual cockpit are literally 'real' - you see exactly what the pilots of the survey aircraft saw when they captured the aerial photography. Explore the UK, go sightseeing, rehearse flights, practice VFR navigation techniques (using real aeronautical charts), or simply enjoy spectacular views from your virtual cockpit.

VFR Generation X Scotland will add a further 5 volumes of ultra-high definition scenery to the existing series of 3 for England & Wales, allowing you to enjoy unsurpassed detail from Lands End to John O'Groats. The resolution and accuracy of the data used to create this content makes VFR Generation X the most detailed and accurate flight simulation scenery ever released commercially for Scotland - including those used by civilian and military flight training institutions that costs thousands of times more.

Serving as testament to its realism, VFR Generation X is used by thousands of private pilots across the globe, and by commercial and military pilots from some of the world's most revered flying institutions.

Features: Ultra-High Definition. Newly acquired for Scotland, Getmapping's photography is the imagery of choice for the world's leading defence contractors and simulation professionals. Thanks to recent advancements in the capabilities of home PCs, we've been able to provide this data as scenery at 60cm/pixel, meaning you can fly at altitudes less than 500ft and still have pin sharp scenery

Unparalleled Terrain Detail (5m Terrain Mesh)
Using new terrain data from Getmapping's latest aerial surveys, VFR Generation X gives users minute topographic detail that shows every lump and bump in Scotland - all fully correlated to provide the perfect fit with the aerial photography, adding dramatically to the immersion that this sythentic environment provides.

Hand-Edited Custom Night Scenery:
Night-lighting for the Western Isles was painstakingly created by hand for utmost realism. (Whilst night lighting for the Orkneys & Shetlands (Vol. 5) will be created in the same way, the larger mainland volumes may not use this technique.)

Realistic Water Effects:
Like VFR Generation X England & Wales, water bodies in Scotland have been designed to retain the natural water colours shown by the aerial photography as far as possible, again adding to the scenery's immersion. In addition, they will provide a moving, reflective surface that will allow float aircraft operations, and will even let you see through to sub-surface features like sand bars and underwater channels

Enhanced Default Airports:
With help from some of our clever beta testers (Norman, George, and Tony), we're delighted to be able to include re-worked default airport sceneries for the Western Isles, which add more content and ensure that the runways, taxiways, buildings and terrain correlate seamlessly.
