Summary

The way of the samurai, we have been told by countless books, films and videogames, is one of honour. In Way of the Samurai 3, however, you're able to choose a darker path...

That's if you feel so inclined, of course. The game, like its predecessors, blends action and sandbox gameplay, taking you on a romp through the Sengoku era of Japan – a period troubled by war and political intrigue. You can choose to take your character down a good, righteous path and make the world around you a better place or carve a path of villainy, corruption and greed.

The game gives you ample opportunity to do either, with different decisions leading to multiple paths through the game, imbuing Way of the Samurai with oodles of replay value. You can even opt to take down foes using the blunt edge of your blade, making your way to the end without taking a single life – although actions have consequences, and an enemy you spared may come back to cause trouble.

New to the series is a 'sudden battle' system, that enables you to draw your sword at any point in play, even during in-game events. Also making a first appearance in the franchise is the 'Original Blade Creation System', which allows you to build your very own custom sword by combining parts.

The way of the samurai might not always be honourable, but that doesn't mean it can't always be fun.
