Summary

Getting creeped out and chilled right to the bone might not seem like an activity to engage in with your friendly-looking Wii console at first glance, but Konami is looking to change your outlook on that. Drawing heavily on the traditions of Japanese horror, Calling is sure to have you waking up in the small hours with cold sweats. Which, of course, is a good thing.

The story centres on the legendary 'Page of Black' website. Rumour dictates that anyone who views this page will slip into a coma before falling into death's icy clutches. But there's nothing on this page – it's simply black with a numeric counter in the middle and a link to a chat room. Not everyone can get in there, but those that do find their psyche starting to receive haunting calls from 'Abyss'. From there, they're drawn into a state of limbo in a place called 'Border', a liminal space between life and death...

In the game the Wii Remote doubles up as a torch – often your only light source – and the game plays well on the use of light, steadily building up the tension until the player is driven from feeling unease to outright fear. You'll have to wander around the different areas of Border – areas that are populated by spirits – and gather clues to uncover the mystery of Border. To make matters even creepier, your Wii Remote further serves as a phone, one that the dead will quite happily call you up on...

Your Wii's not looking quite so cute next to the telly now, is it?
