Summary

One of the great things about games is the way they allow you to recreate dangerous situations without ever putting yourself in jeopardy. In the case of the Fantastic Four, sure, we've all thought about rocketing ourselves into space on top of tons of explosives in order to get bombarded by cosmic rays that might set us on fire, but surely just playing Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer's a safer idea?

This adaptation of the second Fantastic Four movie sees a mysterious silver-domed chap descending from the heavens on a surfboard to cause all kinds of havoc. Naturally, the Fantastic Four can't be having any of that, so they jump into the fray. The game features about a 50/50 split between following the film's plot and providing new content. While the film is at least nominally grounded in reality, you'll see the additional content taking its lead from some of the crazier content in the comics, without losing the feel of the movie.

Much of the game's appeal is in the range of abilities on offer. All the characters will have fully active powers from the word go, although power levels can be increased over the course of the game. Players will be able to wade in – huge, rocky feet first - with the ever-lovin' blue-eyed Thing, flame-on and zip around the screen as the Human Torch, get all stealthy and fling forcefields around as the Invisible Woman, or stretch like…well, a crazy stretchy man as Mr Fantastic. Not only will you be able to tackle different problems in different ways as you switch characters, you'll also be able to match up their abilities to create combos.
