Summary

It is the year 2405, and human scientists have discovered a new technology, the Node Drive. This is an innovation that will finally allow travel from star to star at speeds faster than light. As mankind is poised on the brink of a new era, tragedy strikes, as the first inter-colony ship is destroyed and Earth is ravaged by an alien force. What was supposed to be the dawning of a new era instead was stymied by a grim, new reality: we are not alone, and we are no longer safe.

In Sword of the Stars, turn-based strategy and empire-building combine with real-time tactical combat to provide an immersive experience to even the most jaded space-dwelling strategist. In a universe where weakness means extinction, you must build the ultimate empire in Sword of the Stars to survive. Prepare to explore mysterious star systems and claim planets to expand your kingdom. New resources are then yours to exploit, and then you can design bigger, faster, more powerful ships to destroy the enemy in fully three dimensional battles.

Sword of the Stars is a real grab-bag of a game, but that's no bad thing. Just enough of each of its covered genres - a clever and intriguing hybrid of strategy, tactical combat and management, this one delivers a lot of bang for your buck.
