Summary

THQ's Barnyard is the video game of Nickelodeon's animated movie of the same name. The game begins when the farmer drives off, leaving the barnyard animals to fend for themselves. They stand up on two legs and start talking. Players assume the role of Otis the adolescent cow, who - very much like human adolescents - is causing his parents a great deal of concern. Otis' dad Ben is the patriarch of the barnyard and is grooming Otis to follow in his footsteps, or should that be hoofsteps? Anyway, there's a slight problem. Otis is a bit of a party animal and, at times is as mad as a hatter. Ben is convinced that his son will be unable to change his crazy lifestyle and is desperately worried about the whole situation. The scenario is not helped by the fact that it is also coyote season and a pack of the beasts are trying their hardest to invade the farmyard. Helped by new cow on the block Daisy, Otis must grow up fast, help protect the barnyard and ultimately prove his father wrong.

Barnyard is very different to other movie-inspired games. Instead of players having to wade their way through countless missions that simply re-tell the film's storyline, players must explore a fully interactive 3D world (including Walnut Woods, Dankweed Pond and of course the Barnyard itself) and attempt a broad selection of missions and mini-games. To be successful, gamers must form alliances with the other farmyard animals, such as Miles the Mule, Pip the Mouse, Etta the Hen and Freddy the Ferret. To save the day, you must also go on quests, join teams and participate in various sporting competitions.
