If you’re a Premiership football fan then there’s every chance you’ll be a bit dismayed at the breaking of the league by the hated Chelski. I bet you wish there was some sort of fantasy world you could disappear into and pretend it never happened, don’t you? Well, check this out, now there is (again). Hot on the heels of EA’s FIFA football game comes the other, younger member of the EA licensed football game clan – FIFA Manager 06.
Known up until recently as Total Club Manager, it seems only natural that EA should have slapped on the official license they have controlled for so long. They’ve also taken the opportunity to overhaul the interface, and they reckon that the game is both more accessible and deeper than previously. They also say that theirs is the only fully-licensed managerial game, featuring 2000 clubs from around the world and a very impressive database of more than 20,000 players, 7,000 of which (from the English, German, Italian, Spanish and French leagues) are accompanied by player photos.
One of the most attractive facets of the EA management games has been that they make full use of the assets from their sister game, FIFA. That’s no different this time, and you get a full 3D match engine which allows you watch the action from a distance, or focus on the actions of individual players.
As an aspiring manager, you are helped out by the game’s own ‘website’, which will feed you information from unsubstantiated rumours to transfers and team info. Understanding how your team will fit together is even easier than before, with all players falling into one of 18 style categories, which include dribbler, holding midfielder, target man, libero and hardman. A secondary, 2D match engine allows you to watch any game from your league, and a match analysis tool helps you to make sure you don’t miss a detail of the game. A neat and all-embracing package for the fantasy football fan.
