Summary

Resurrected publisher Atari brings a large slice of gaming history to the Playstation 2, featuring many of the games that made the brand famous back in the day. The game is designed around a central hub that divides all the games into genres, with options to play either the home console or arcade version. It’s so much easier to play your favourite retro titles than if you were using clunky old original hardware or even an emulator.

A staggering 80 games are included, and despite the fact that the space taken up by each on a PS2 DVD is negligibly small, it’s still a remarkably generous and well thought out selection. Some real arcade gems are included, favourites like Asteroids (and Asteroids Deluxe), Gravitar, Lunar Lander, Centipede, Red Baron and of course Pong and Super Breakout, along with Battlezone, Black Widow, Crystal Castles, Liberator, Major Havoc, Millipede, Missile Command, Space Duel, Tempest and Warlords.

On top of those, there’s every game from the iconic Atari 2600 that you’re likely to want or remember, spanning pretty much every genre. Just look at them:

3D Tic Tac Toe, Adventure, Air-Sea Battle, Asteroids, Atari Video Cube, Backgammon, Battlezone, Black Jack, Bowling, Breakout, Canyon Bomber, Casino, Centipede, Circus Atari, Combat, Crystal Castles, Demon to Diamonds, Desert Falcon, Dodge ‘Em, Double Dunk, Flag Capture, Football, Fun with Numbers, Golf, Gravitar, Hangman, Haunted House, Home Run, Human Cannonball, Math Gran Prix, Maze Craze, Millipede, Miniature Golf, Missile Command, Night Driver, Off the Wall, Outlaw, Quadrun, Radar Lock, Realsports Baseball, Realsports Football, Realsports Tennis, Realsports Volleyball, Skydiver, Slot Machine, Slot Racers, Space War, Sprintmaster, Star Raiders, Star Ship, Steeplechase, Stellar Track, Street Racer, Submarine Commander, Super Baseball, Super Breakout, Super Football, Surround, Swordquest: Earthworld, Swordquest: Fireworld, Swordquest: Waterworld, Video Checkers, Video Chess, Video Olympics, Video Pinball, Warlords, and Yar's Revenge.

And it’s not only this cornucopia that’s on offer, players also get bonus features in the form of manuals, comics and catalogues. As well as visual modes to brighten up your old friends, and even feature which add extra longevity by distorting the gameplay and making it more difficult than ever before! Whether you’re an old gamer looking for some nostalgia or just looking for some simple, yet fun and diverting games, Atari Anthology could well be worth a look.
