Summary

Good for a post-pub gaming session as well being a family-oriented venture, Sony London's Singstar proved popular with the masses as an innovative karaoke sim that judged and scored its players based on their pitch, rhythm and tone. At the time it was unique to the UK, but just several months later it's to be joined by the aptly named sequel, Singstar Party.

The basic premise of Singstar Party is much like it was the first time around, but as a multi-player focused outing, the game now includes brand new Duet and Pass the Mic modes that see anywhere from two to eight players competing for karaoke supremacy as they pit their vocals in 30 brand new tracks. Furthermore, players of the original game can expand their song library and multi-player opportunities by making use of the newly developed 'cross-disc' compatibility option.

The tracks on offer, complete with music videos, are:

Alicia Keys - Fallin'
Ashford & Simpson - Solid
Bill Withers - Ain't No Sunshine
Blu Cantrell - Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!)
Bob Marley - No Woman No Cry
Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star
Busted - Year 3000
Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Destiny's Child - Survivor
Dido - White Flag
Duran Duran - Hungry Like The Wolf
Elton John & Kiki Dee - Don't Go Breaking My Heart
Elvis - Way Down
Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out
George Michael - Faith
Jamiroquai - Cosmic Girl
Javine - Real Things
Kylie Minogue - I Should Be So Lucky
Little Richard - Tutti Frutti

As you can see, there's a broad selection of well-known cheesy tunes on offer from a number of decades, as well as several more recent tracks for the younger game out there, giving Singstar the diversity it needs to attract audiences of any age.

Expect further instalments of the Singstar series in the coming years.
