Summary

We refuse to believe that you’ve not heard of Pokemon. Even if you’ve not heard of videogames, you must have heard of the Pokemon, because Nintendo’s biggest money spinning franchise of recent time transcends the world of videogames. With their own range of playing cards, cartoon series, comics, plush toys and videogames, it wouldn’t be going too far to say that for kids these days, the Pokemon are bigger than Mickey Mouse.

There’s been an avalanche of Pokemon games across all Nintendo platforms, with Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance the principal beneficiaries, but the ‘cube and DS also getting a piece of the action.

Now finally Pokemon Emerald comes to Europe, what may be the last GBA Pokemon title and a game that released in Japan a whole year ago. Once again set in the world of Hoenn, Emerald pitches you against the collective might of Teams Magma and Aqua, who are supported respectively by massive elemental forces, respectively Groudon and Kyogre, or ground and water. However can you expect to face such enemies? Well, it’s just lucky that you have your own elemental power to help you – it’s Rayquaza – the sky itself.

An extension of the Ruby and Sapphire titles, Emerald sees you once again at the battle frontier, taking on the Frontier Brains as you try to collect all the precious symbols. The game is compatible via link-up with Ruby and Sapphire, so you can swap and battle your Pokemon with your friends. And of course you can also use the Pokemon Colosseum on Nintendo Gamecube as the stage for these grand battles.
