Summary

The movie Starship Troopers is a modern scf-fi classic. What could have been purest brain-in-neutral schlockbuster drivel was transformed into a low-budget masterpiece by a dark humourous streak and some incredible computer generated battle sequences, and even a flash of Denise Richards heinous pre-op boobs couldn't ruin things....

Starship Troopers, the game, brings the delights of the movie, at least the bug killing parts of the movie, we were unable to find Denise Richards, to the PC in the form of a first person shooter. Players find themselves a member of the 'Marauders' - the elite 'Special Forces' of the Mobile Infantry. It is up to you to spearhead an assault against thousands of dangerous enemy insectoids that are trying to overthrow the planet Hesperus. You must defend your compound against over 300 enemies coming at you simultaneously, each with their own AI. This number of enemies, each of which act as individuals, is made possible by the unique SWARM game engine, and without it the feel of the movie would just not have been possible on a computer.

Just as in the 1997 movie, you will have to overcome wave after wave of bugs. The game, Starship Troopers features a combination of real-time battles on a grand scale and solo missions. Your team is armed to the teeth with explosive weaponry. Weapons at your disposal include the "standard" Morita rifle seen in the film, as well as the plasma rifle, shotgun and rocket launcher, plus a variety of new and exciting items such as intelligent grenades and the infamous nuke launcher.

Not just limited by the locations set in the movie, the game is spread across a variety of indoor and outdoor environments on the planet Hesperus, including abandoned mines, laboratories, large battlefields and insect nests.
