Summary

Despite the release of its Xbox console in 2002, Microsoft has continued to support the PC platform no end with games such as Zoo Tycoon and Flight Simulator 2004. Dungeon Siege is another such title, and following a year on after its original release is the Legends of Aranna expansion pack.

Piecing together a strange story from an old tattered journal, you discover that your mother and father were also heroes, known for adventures throughout the continent of Aranna. The journal sends you on a journey to the mysterious Island of Utrae, a place brimming with thousands of years of history. Here you'll encounter strange primordial creatures such as the magically gifted Utraeans, the saurian Zaurask, and the feline Hassat - all of which have long been at each other's throats.

A 3D realised role-playing game, The Legends of Aranna expansion boasts a whole new set of vibrant gaming locales in which to wield your swords and cast your spells. Although unrealistic, the graphics are bright and colourful, native creatures are imaginative and numerous visual effects from magic spells are very impressive.

With regards to other new goodies, players can now take advantage of improved control groups, localised attacks, a multi-player save feature, improved maps, transformation spells, magical traps, treasure sets and backpacks for an expanded inventory. What’s more, it includes the full version of the original Dungeon Siege, making it a real bargain package.

Dungeon Siege is very much a classic PC role-playing game that delivers everything a game of this genre should, and then some.
