Summary

Yet another Nickelodeon franchise to hit the video games industry, the THQ-published Jimmy Neutron games have been well received by fans of the animated boy/quiff hybrid. Last year saw the release of Boy Genius for all major platforms, and making his second annual appearance on Game Boy Advance, Jimmy Neutron braves an all-new adventure called Jet Fusion.

In an attempt to take over the world, the aptly named Dr Calamitus has kidnapped the one person with the ability to stop him, Jet Fusion. However, he never thought that a boy genius would enter into the picture. Enter Jimmy Neutron, the elaborately-coiffured boy called in by the Big Top Secret Organisation to rescue Jet Fusion.

A pure platform adventure, Jet Fusion sees our youthful protagonist negotiating a variety of themed levels whilst using a selection of outrageous weapons to defeat oncoming enemies. Armed with Pulse Light Ray, Gust Buster Fan, Grappling Hook, Jimmy Bot and Neutron Duplicator, players assume control of Jimmy as he strives to bring the evil doctor to justice. There are 16 levels in all, spanning some five game worlds, in which Jimmy can interact with characters from the animated series. Carl, Sheen, Cindy and Nick are all present, and the occasional dose of narrative helps drive the game forward.

Visually the game is typical of a 16-bit SNES or MegaDrive outing, and is well suited to Nintendo’s handheld. The game looks simple, quirky and is lacking any complicated controls. Because of this, Jet Fusion is highly accessible, and ultimately, kids will have fun playing it.
