Summary

The follow up to Lords of Midnight, Mike Singleton's next efforts featured an even bigger map area, but also used fog to obscure the player's viewpoint, a creative use of empty space. Tunnels from one location to another also made for a more 3D experience. More races (with interracial hatred and rivalry) made recruiting allies much more tricky. Keyword here is more - gameplay was almost identical to LoM. Well, why change a winning formula? AI was improved, but not to the point where the computer had an even playing field - in fact, Doomdark was much harder to beat than LoM, and much more random in the outcome of any one game. This "fuzzy factor" was not quite to the public taste. The final installment of the Beyond Epic series never saw the light of day.
