A hardcore tactical game from Just Play, Titans of Steel has players battling for supremacy in a conflict between four races that spans hundreds of light years. Echoes of Star Trek, anyone ?
Needless to say Titans of Steel is set in the far future, and high casualties are no longer a suitable price to pay in war. So in order to be able to have an effective fighting force without a bloody battlefield, a new way of waging wars was developed. Fighting forces are now grouped into battle squads and the main fighting units are Titan Attack Techs.
But Titans of Steel is more than a complicated combat game. It is designed to be an open-ended adventure, accommodating up to four battle squads using four different races. All pilots have a full complement of statistics and can earn experience points, which players can then use to increase seven different attributes and some 19 skills. The play mechanic is very much like that of a role-playing game.
Players can compete in five arenas with overlaid hexagonal grids that include several different and hostile terrains, including deserts, ice caps and planet cores. Each terrain type also influences battles. For example, playing in the polar arena will cool weapons down allowing for faster rates of fire. Environments are also deformable; a forest will burn and buildings will turn to rubble. Its all very realistic for a galactic adventure set hundreds of years into the future, you know.
