Summary

Combining elements of flight sim, adventure and combat games, Wings of Honour turns back the clock to the time of the first world war and gives players the opportunity to fight and fly a variety of combat aircraft from that era.

The game takes the form of a series of objective-based missions or battle assignments, which throughout can vary from simple, flight sim-style meandering around to all out, in-your-face action. As such, players are charged with a wide variety of tasks, including air battles, 30 aircraft dogfights, bombing runs, and spy missions. So there's a bit in it for everyone - whether you fancy yourself as the Red Baron or are more interested in enjoying the scenery. Once players have completed a particular mission, the skills they have learned are often then required to help them achieve the next set of objectives, thus presenting a learning curve that ensures the best dogfighting skills will have been mastered once deeper into the game.

On the visual side of things, a host of special effects bring the action to life throughout the game, such as real-time damage, tracer bullets, impressive explosions, and volumetric effects. The surrounding scenery is well detailed and benefits from a long draw distance, and each of the models has been intricately reconstructed, which together make for a realistic feel to the proceedings.

Not leaning too far in either direction, Wings of Honour blends a healthy mix or flight sim and arcade gameplay, delivering an immersive flying experience but with a user-friendly control system and plenty of action.
