Comprising of Tarzan, Aladdin in Nasira's Revenge and The Emperor's New Groove, Disney's Triple Pack for PSone comes housed in a package that will cause havoc on your games shelf, but will no doubt keep younger players quiet and happy for some time. Here's what you can expect from this bargain bundle.
Tarzan is a platform adventure of the linear variety. Here, gameplay entails Tarzan (that's you, the player) moving either left or right across a 3D environment with no freedom to move in or out of the screen, similar to Pandemonium. Tarzan has basic manoeuvres and methods of attacking, such as running, jumping and throwing items. But because of the jungle type environment you will be able to swing across vines and eat bananas. As a platform game, Tarzan typically features end-of-level bosses that include real movie villains, such as the evil leopard, Sabor. While you begin the first areas of the game as a child, like the film, he will grow into an adult as you progress through the game. This makes your character much stronger, but as a consequence, so does the game's challenge.
From a platformer to a straight-ahead adventure - a Tomb Raider-lite, if you like - Nasira's Revenge is one of Disney's early pops at a full 3D exploration and puzzle experience. You get to control not one, not two, but three characters from the film - Aladdin, Jasmine, and Abu. Each character handles differently, but all are easy to get accustomed to. As with any game of this nature, there are many collectibles, power-ups, and other miscellaneous bonuses scattered around the game environment. However, obtaining some of these bonus items will prove a lot trickier than you may think, and you must use each character's abilities to the fullest to exploit each area of the game. You will have to fly carpets, swing on ropes, and even practice your sword combat skills with guards and man-eating zombies.
If, after all that swinging around with Tarzan and mildly scary encounters with unpleasant types from Agrabah, you're looking for something a little more lighthearted, The Emperor's New Groove is just the ticket. New Groove is a genuinely amusing game, it includes excerpts from the film and demonstrates a tongue-in-cheek attitude towards platform games in general.
You can play the game two ways; you can run through completing it as fast as can, or you can take your time and try to find all tokens and secrets on each level. There are puzzles to solve and bosses to defeat and platforms to be negotiated. At times you will be transformed into another animal, such as a tortoise, and challenged to win a race. It's another platformer, yes, but sufficiently different from the other games in this triple pack - if the film amused you, wait until you get interactive with this.
It's hard to resist this package - Disney magic to the power of three.
