Summary

The much-awaited sequel to Massive Entertainment's original Ground Control RTS takes a different direction with regards to the gameplay, focussing less on resource management and more on the fun aspect - tactical combat. As a result, instead of harvesting resources and building bases, you get to spend more time in the thick of it and the action is kept hot and heavy, with the game immediately rewarding you for accomplishing objectives.

Operation Exodus chronicles the ongoing conflict between the Northern Star Alliance and the Terran Empire. Having lost the war in space, the NSA retreats to their home world and forces the Terran Empire to engage in a savage war of attrition on the ground. You take the role of a Captain in the field, commanding a task force consisting of infantry, tanks, artillery and aircraft.

The huge drop-ships have always been a trademark in the Ground Control universe. This time they're not only back but refined and developed to become more central in the gameplay. The heavily armored hulks deliver the units that a commander requires on the battlefield, but can now be damaged and even shot down.

The multiplayer aspect in Operation Exodus has also undergone considerable revamping, with the deathmatch-style gameplay now allowing players to 'drop in' and join an ongoing game at any time. There's also a co-op mode, which allows players to play through the single player campaign together, each in command of their own drop-ship to call in reinforcements and each able to trade units back and forth throughout.
