Summary

All the pulse-pounding, knee-scraping action of the 16 event, 13 country, nine month spectacular event that is MotoGP is again brought to the Xbox, and this time around, it's Live-enabled.

MotoGP: Ultimate Racing Technology 2 has a number of different game modes, from the Quick Race blast around the track, a complete 16 track MotoGP season in the Career mode, or the Xbox Live-enabled multiplayer mode.

For newcomers, a Quick Race is the best place to start. It's a matter of 'choose your bike, select a course', and off you go to get some practice done. Only three tracks are initially available in Quick Race mode - the rest can be opened up for this mode by the usual progression in championships or Stunt mode. Career mode offers a complete simulation of the 2002 MotoGP season. You can create your own rider in this mode, and you can use him in all of the other modes too. Stunt mode is a bit of a misnomer in that there's no kind of Colt Seavers/Evel Knievel type motorcycle madness. It's simply a series of races that challenge you to race against the clock as well as other riders as you try to hit the checkpoints in time. The better times you record, the more game features you'll unlock. Finally there's Time Trial, a simple race against the clock featuring the ghost bike option that lets you race against your own best times. In a game full of unlockable goodies, you'll hardly be surprised to find that Time Trial tracks have to be attained through successful Stunt or Career modes.

MotoGP: Ultimate Racing Technology 2 is a fabulous update to Climax's original, and a noisy beggar to boot. Suffice to say that if you're not keen on the sound of many four-stroke engines revving at once, keep the remote handy. This is one game that'll have you leaning left and right as you play - always a sign that the developer has the gameplay just right. Lucky you - now go get this game!
