Summary
With the Winter 2002 release of Star Trek Nemesis on the big screen, it seems only natural for Empire to put together a series of the best Star Trek games of the past few years. Here's what you can look forward to:
Star Trek Away Team
A point-and-click strategy game, Away Team is distinctly reminiscent of the Command and Conquer series. The federation is once again at war with many of the universe's well-known enemies, not least the Romulans. Restricted by Starfleet's official rules, your challenge is to conduct a series of highly secretive missions as unidentified officers. Should you get caught, your game will be over. You may choose to play as any of 17 specialists that range from doctors to engineers, before being teleported to a series of highly complex and confusing alien environments. Of course, you will be armed with a variety of offensive and defensive weapons, including the legendary phaser and the more primitive sniper rifle. Stealth and combat tactics are of vital importance in these life and death missions.
As well as being a highly playable and enjoyable game, Star Trek: Away Team remains comprehensive and faithful to the series. A pleasure.
Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force
One blast from destruction, Voyager is mysteriously transported into null space, an uncharted region infested with danger. As part of Voyager's elite Hazard team, you must defend it from a host of scavenging aliens, then infiltrate a Borg cube and derelict vessels to eradicate your foe.
Voyager Elite Force runs on a modified Quake 3 engine. Using new graphical features such as compressed textures and Anisotropic filtering, this title looks amazing. Being inside a Borg cube is terrifying, especially when they adapt to your weapons and you are left powerless.
With 40 intense single player missions and 16 multi-player arenas, this is one game you won't be putting down in a hurry. With an incredible online experience to complement the gameplay, Elite Force comes highly recommended. Remember, if Voyager is destroyed, humanity won't be far behind.
Star Trek Armada
In Star Trek Armada, you play as one of four formidable races. Each species has it's own objectives and missions that link very closely with the series. For example, the Borg are trying to synthesise the Omega molecule, a story from one of the later Voyager shows. Armada is a real-time strategy game and gives you a level of control over the universe that is so richly appreciated. You'll find yourself mining dilithium to provide energy for your fleet, building starships and bases and participating in the greatest space battles ever seen. With plenty of mission diversity and Star Trek legends, Armada is one great game. Resistance is, and always been, futile.
Star Trek: Hidden Evil
Plunged into the wake of the events following Star Trek: Insurrection, you find yourself embroiled in a plot to harness the destructive powers of a coveted genetic seed. You must engage alien forces and outwit your foes in a series of challenging missions, or else the Federation will fall victim to its ruthless archenemy.
Explore a mysterious, ancient Star Trek civilisation, lushly re-created in immense 3-D rendered environments. Take on foes with deadly weapons, such as phasers and the Vulcan Nerve Pinch. Follow orders from Captain Picard, using your Tricorder and Communicator to gather helpful facts. It's all there in this brand new, blinding Star Trek tale.
