Summary

Another fish-em-up for punters to reel in, Xicat’s Top Angler has been long delayed for GameCube, but finally gets its release. Such games are sighted more and more on PS2, but they’re a rarity for GameCube, so we welcome Top Angler in anticipation.

Sometimes it’s tranquil, sometimes it’s frantic, but it’s all great fun. Claiming to be the most quintessential fishing game ever created, Top Angler is set to give Sega’s classic Bass Fishing a run for its bait.

Statistically, and at the time of release, Top Angler is by far the most comprehensive interpretation of the time-consuming sport. You will be supplied with a variety of up-to-date lures, bait and Fish Finders with which you must use your intelligence and virtual fishing skills to master the world’s most challenging fishing rivers and lakes.

But your ultimate objective is not only to catch the biggest fish in the lake, but to catch the most agile and difficult to lure. When fishing, weight isn’t everything - most of the time you simply have to outsmart the critters. If you find the right bait and wave it in front of the right fish, Top Angler shouldn’t be too difficult.

But it’s not really the challenge that makes this game compelling. Just the general concept and they way the game has been executed makes the whole experience a lot of fun.
