Summary

It's nice to see some new ideas in games once in a while, even if they're still based on the old good-versus-evil premise. Take Project Nomads, for example. Following the explosion of the planet Nomads, the survivors drift on rocky islands through space. As a result, a new world has been created, with communities constructing factories, power stations and defensive structures on the flying islands that make up their new homes.

Among the survivors is a beautiful girl by the name of Suzie, a smart guy called John and the powerful Goliath, one of which can be selected by the player before embarking on a quest to turn their island into a powerful fortress, solve mysteries and find lost friends. The ultimate goal is to find and defeat the evil force that was behind the destruction of the planet.

Project Nomads is a cross genre game that mixes gameplay elements of 3D action, real-time strategy and role-playing. Armies of flying machines, biplanes and zeppelins produced by the factories are controlled to gain the upper hand in the battle for rare resources and valuable artefacts. The floating platform is used like a battleship to explore the unknown realms in the clouds.

This is definitely an original idea and a refreshing change at that. The wonderfully obscure drifting universe dreamt up by Radon Labs is rendered very nicely if you've got the PC power, showing off some impressive real-time lighting and shading. It's also expansive and has a great deal of freedom of movement, so you'll enjoy a fair few hours of gameplay from this interesting little title.
