Released in September 2000, Zeus for PC put forward an intriguing slant on the God sim, incorporating several religious elements. Almost one year later, Poseidon, the official expansion, is released. Once again, you must strive to be the mightiest God of all.
In Poseidon: God of Atlantis you must broaden your horizons and start thinking beyond the realm of Greece, for there is a whole world to conquer. You are now free to colonise the American continents, as well as Africa, Asia and the rest of Europe. But most importantly, Atlantis is now under your control as you challenge the games 46 episodes and six campaigns.
As an expansion, Poseidon typically features a larger variety of buildings, building materials and monuments than its predecessor. There is also a whole new bunch of civilisations, including the Mayans, Egyptians, Phoenicians and Oceanids. But with new races comes a new breed of monsters. Preventing the destruction of your colony from the likes of Chimera, Echidna and Harpies will prove quite a challenge, regardless of the players skill level.
There are many gameplay variables to take into consideration when playing Poseidon. Building a flourmill here and there is all fine and dandy, but build too many or too few, and your strategy will prove fallible. Like any other race or society, the key to a successful living environment lies in the ability to balance your resources. Keep this in mind, and you shouldnt have too much trouble. Nevertheless, its an involving game that offers endless hours of gameplay.
