They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Krazy Racers from Konami is unashamedly a clone of Nintendos classic Mario Kart. Or, maybe Konami just decided that it would be a fantastically original idea to pool their popular characters together in a cartoon-style Kart racer with power-ups and mode seven backgrounds. Regardless, Krazy Racers will more than fill the karting gap for the launch of the Game Boy Advance.
Krazy Racers plays well. Konami has nailed the control method and the karts respond accurately to your input. The Mario Kart powerslide is intact and can be very useful when tackling tight corners. It wont take long to learn the track layouts and then youll start to put some quick times in.
Krazy Racers features weapons that can be stored for use later on in the race. These weapons can mean the difference between winning and losing. Certain weapons are projectile-based, and others are designed to be left on the track. The lightning affects all other racers on the track by temporarily slowing them down.
A new twist to the cartoon karting world is the inclusion of licence tests. Basically, you have to earn your licences in order to access more tracks. These licence tests include completing a track within a specific time limit and racing a computer character for victory.
Initially the pace is a little slow, although things soon start to pick up. In the later races the game becomes ridiculously fast. Overall, Krazy Racers stands up as a great game in its own right.
