Summary

If you’ve ever been down to the track for a spot of karting action, you will know first hand the excitement that these little beasts generate. Because you are so close to the ground, you really notice the speed. You cannot beat the thrill of beating off ten other drivers to come first in a competitive race. Kart racing is the stepping-stone for many drivers into the multi-million pound world of Formula 1. In Open Kart for the PC, you have your chance to become the best virtual Kart driver in the world.

The aim of the game is simple, just come first in every race that you enter. It’s going to be hard to learn the tracks, figuring out the ideal braking spots, when to turn in and for how long to turn in for. Learning the racing line is important because you want to keep as much speed and revs throughout the whole circuit as possible. But when you do get the hang of the tracks and your kart, Open Kart becomes a ridiculously addictive game. It just feels so scarily similar to real kart driving. When you win a race you are rewarded with cold hard cash. You can use this money to soup-up and modify your demon kart.

Open Kart features three different classes of speed ranging from 100cc through to 250cc. If you thought you were good at 100cc, let’s see how you fare when you’re travelling two and a half times as fast. Karts can reach speeds of up to 120mph and they are only 4 inches off the ground. If you don’t fancy the heartache and challenge of the career mode you can alternatively choose the arcade mode for some straightforward racing action.

Depending on your PC’s graphical capabilities, Open Kart can look visually fantastic. The graphics are made up of high-detail polygons and the frame rate is smooth. If you
have the opportunity to race with seven other drivers using a local area network, do it. This game is excellent in multi-player. Open Kart is a quality kart racing title.
