Summary

It had to happen sooner or later. The green and tan fight has spilled over into next generation handheld territory. If you are a fan of the Army Men series, you will love the chance to take this game with you wherever you go. This outing is a little different from the Army Men style that you might be used to. The graphics and gameplay have changed, and for the better.

Army Men Advance is a top down scrolling shooter that is heavy in the puzzle and action departments. You can play the game as one of two characters, but both play the same way. Basically, the Tan Army has waged war on the world once again and it is up to you to put a stop to their plans. You start the game behind enemy lines and you must fight your way out of danger. It’s not going to be easy, but whoever said being a soldier was easy?

Army Men Advance sports a massive 12 levels and with only one energy bar per level it is bound to take you some time to complete the whole game. The earlier missions are simplistic in their nature, and these give you time to learn the control method. For example, you start the game in the enemy’s jail and to escape you must find the keys, kill the guards and solve the door puzzles. Later on in the game, you’ll have to avoid falling in the bath and being eating by beetles in the garden.

Army Men Advance is the first shooting game to be released on the Game Boy Advance and that’s a landmark in itself. If next-generation portable shooting action tickles your gaming fancy, then why not experience the fun of Army Men Advance for yourself.
