Summary

One of Hanna-Barbera’s most popular cartoons of the 60’s and 70’s was a little show called Wacky Races. This cartoon broke the mould. Instead of having central characters based around one setting, it featured several characters racing across many different environments. It was a fun-filled race to the end with plenty of laughs and under-handed tactics. You can now be a part of that kooky gang as Wacky Races makes its way onto the PlayStation 2.

All of your favourite characters have assembled at the start line and the aim of the game is simple: be the first over the finish line. It’s not about being the quickest driver, as Wacky Races is more about clever racing. The careful use of your weapons can make all the difference between winning and losing. For example, using a projectile weapon on the first-placed car just as they are about the cross the finish line. On the other hand, being robbed of victory on the last lap can be somewhat frustrating, but that’s the game.

Wacky Races is gorgeous game to look at, its visuals are cartoony and are rendered using cell-shading techniques. Cell-shading is where thick black lines are drawn on the edges of the polygons to make them appear hand-drawn. Add lusciously detailed backgrounds and you have a beautiful game to admire.

Wacky Races boasts 11 cars, including favourite characters like The Ant Hill Mob and Dick Dastardly.and Muttley. With over 20 tracks to race on, including new city themed tracks, there is plenty of gameplay to enjoy. Hidden in every track is a mirror icon and if you find it you can then race the track backwards, effectively doubling the number of tracks. Up to four players can play simultaneously and with over 60 weapons to annihilate each other with, you’ll be enjoying this title for ages.
