Chess is renowned for being one of the most competitive board games ever conceived, even if it’s considered to be a little boring or time consuming by some anti-chess mobsters. The more intelligent population out there will realise that chess is a game of pure strategy. You must estimate and anticipate your opponents future moves, making the game potentially last for hours. Rarely have human beings been able to win in a match against the computer, and to this day, only the world’s greatest players have the patience and skill to take on some of the worlds most powerful AI chess players. This challenge prompted the creation of a number of chess video games. Chessmaster on GameBoy Color is among the offerings.

While not a super computer by any means, the GBC is still capable of thrashing most flawed human players, so developers Mindscape placed sixteen difficulty levels to reach a number of differently skilled players. If single player sounds a little tedious, then a link mode is available for you to challenge your chess-playing friends.

So, if you thought chess was boring, think again. Rooks and Bishops have never been more exciting (sigh)!
