French company Cryo Interactive has been responsible for many highly playable games. Gift is one of their better known titles, and has now been developed for the Game Boy Color.
You play Gift, a red blob with a big mouth and an even bigger attitude problem. Volunteering yourself for a death-defying quest, your challenge is to defeat the Shadow of the Black Deep Dark Night.
Unlike the PC and PlayStation 2 version of the game, this handheld version is played in 2D with a birds-eye point of view. As opposed to scrolling, each room of the game fills the screen, allowing the player to view their surroundings without too many surprises. Many of these rooms have puzzles, whereas others will have hordes of bad guys and booby traps. In each world there is a fearsome end-of-level boss to defeat. Your challenge is great, but a series of collectibles and special abilities should help you along the way.
The plot is uncomplicated, the gameplay is simple, yet innovative, and that will appeal to any gamer. What’s more, on Game Boy Color, you can take it anywhere.
