Summary

FA Premier League Stars 2001 is, thankfully, the comparatively sedate sequel to last year's Premier League Stars. Whereas the gameplay in the original was enough to induce motion sickness, this update is a little less fast and furious, but hardly the Burt Bacharach of football games.

Officially endorsed by the best league in the world, and with the voice talent of television's finest commentators, you would be excused for thinking "Oh, another football game. Whoopee!" But hang on a second. A footy game you can gamble on? Tell me more...

The FA Premier League Stars 2001is unique in that it offers the facility to gamble your team's players against the opposition. Lose a game, and you lose the player you wagered. Win it, and you get their star player. The STARS award system is also retained from the original, so you can boost your players' attributes. Just imagine your team of relegation dog-fighters narrowly beating Chelsea, thus securing the services of Gianfranco Zola, for example. It's the computer game equivalent of 'going down the bookies' on a Saturday lunchtime. EA Sports seem to have designed this game with those freezing, rainy days in mind. You know, the ones where you'd rather stay home than be present at the dullest game ever, and at the mercy of the elements. And we love them for it.

FA Premier League Stars 2001 is surely going to be well received by football fans. If you simply must play in the Premiership, there's no better place to start.
