Summary

Colin McRae Rally 2.0 for the Sony Playstation is the first great rally game of the new century. Codemasters have managed to improve upon the original with features like a new arcade mode and an eight-player challenge mode. The first instalment of this series was extremely playable and things have just got better. Colin McRae, to date, has won nineteen rallies and his all out attacking style has earned him the nickname ‘The Flying Scotsman’. This is definitely the flavour of the game because to be successful, you need to be quick.

Rallying is a fast and exciting sport that translates well into a video game. Drivers need to adapt to a multitude of terrains and conditions. The physics engine is very realistic and subsequently the responsiveness of the car varies from track to track. Like most driving games, the better you become, the harder the game is. As you learn to carry more speed through the corners, you need to adapt the approach and braking distance for the next.

There are over 90 tracks in Colin McRae 2.0 and you can choose from cars such as the Ford Focus and Subaru Impreza. Luckily you have the help of Nicky Grist (Colin’s real-life co-driver) to guide you as you tackle the courses at breakneck speed. Colin McRae 2.0 is a hugely enjoyable game with plenty of depth and gameplay to keep you entertained for months.
