Summary

Get ready Street Fighter 3 fans, the third instalment Third Strike is available for the Dreamcast. All of your favourite characters are making a comeback in the latest version of Street Fighter 3. Capcom are the masters of making addictive fighting games and Third Strike is a credit to the company.

The gameplay is simple, the player with the most energy at the end of the round wins. What makes Street Fighter 3 different to all the other versions is how much more accurate the collision detection is. There are now over 20 different zones that respond to your attacks. You are also judged after each round on how well you performed. To receive a good grade avoid repetition and time your counters perfectly. At the start of each round you can choose one of two opponents to fight against. Perfect for avoiding opponents that you would rather not fight against.

One cool thing about Street Fighter 3 is the parrying system. If you tap forward as your opponent is attacking you can parry their attack allowing you to perform a quick retaliation move. This is risky, and requires split second timing but can mean the difference between winning and losing. It’s a sweet feeling successfully parrying someone’s multi-hit super attack and responding with a super of your own.

Third Strike has so many options it makes the mind spin. There are a total of ten options pages (three of them are secret) where you can change every possible aspect of the gameplay to suit your own style. Normally every character can only use one super attack that you choose from a selection of three. Using the system direction you can turn on all supers, allow chain combos, allow special moves to be cancelled into other specials and even supers into supers.

With great stylish graphics, addictive customisable gameplay and loads of secrets to unlock, Street Fighter 3 Third Strike is the fighting game to own. The re-playability factor is extremely high especially in the two-player mode. Street Fighter 3 Third strike is the epitome of two-dimensional fighting games. Enjoy.
