Summary

Nintendo have had a consistent reputation for bringing some of the greatest video games in history to the game-playing public. With the likes of the Donkey Kong and Mario franchises, Nintendo can rest, assured of their position at the top of the development hierarchy. Another great classic that is recognised more in America and Japan than anywhere else across the globe, was Metroid. After the success of the original NES version, a sequel on GameBoy soon followed, cleverly titled Metroid 2.

Unusually, the hero of Metroid is a female; a desirable change for many players. Samus Aran must once again take on the power of the Metroids in this classic action adventure. Possibly the greatest asset to the development of Metroid is the game’s structure of progression. Often, many areas of the Metroid world must be revisited once a Samus has gained a new set of power ups and abilities. Platforming adventure has never been more intriguing or complex than that of Metroid. We can rest in the knowledge that upcoming Metroid titles will be as great, if not better than its predecessors.
